You are invited to the Center for Health and Social Policy's (CHASP) annual alumni-student networking reception at the LBJ School of Public Affairs on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Our annual reception allows you to network with LBJ alumni, students, faculty, and staff over delicious drinks and hors d'oeuvres!

We will have opportunities for people to meet up with each other by social policy area of interest.

This year, we are also celebrating the amazing work and many contributions of one of LBJ's favorite and recently retired professors, healthcare scholar Dr. Dave Warner! Dr. Warner served at the LBJ School for over 40 years including as interim director of CHASP and has touched the lives of countless students and colleagues. There may even be a mini-roast involved!

Cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served. Dean Evans will kick off the program at 5:45pm. There is free parking in front of the LBJ School of Public Affairs (Lot 39) during the event from 5:00pm-8:00pm; no permit required for A or F spots.

ABOUT DR. WARNER

Dr. David Warner joined the LBJ School more than 40 years ago and recently retired after an illustrious and prolific career. He has authored 65 articles and book chapters as well as served on multiple state and local advisory boards. At UT Austin and the LBJ School, he has served as acting director of the Center for Health and Social Policy, as a member of the advisory board of the Hogg Foundation, as chair of the Student Health Center Advisory Board, and as a member of many committees and study groups. One of Dr. Warner's most noteable accomplishments however is his wholehearted support of the students and alumni of the LBJ School. Throughout his career, Dave has taken pride in not only his work, but also in the many successes of his students.

10 Fast Facts About Dave Warner

  1. Dave’s favorite restaurant in Austin is Fonda San Miguel. He sampled the menu before the restaurant officially opened in 1975 and has kept going back.
  2. Dave taught a unique undergraduate class: Warren Buffett and Bill Gates: How they got rich and how they will give their money away.
  3. Dave loves movies, and goes to the movies about once a week. His movie preferences? Typically artistic films.
  4. Dave has been part of the same book club since 1981, and has read thousands of books.
  5. He has published research on all 25 of his Policy Research Projects (PRP). These faculty-led, nine month courses require graduate students to conduct research and develop materials to benefit a nonprofit or public sector client.
  6. He’s a Red Sox fan, but he also roots for the Longhorns.
  7. Dave has a love for cards and is an excellent bridge player
  8. Dave lived in India while working on his Master’s from Syracuse.
  9. When Dave was studying at Princeton, he appeared on the TV game-show Jeopardy, and came in second place.
  10. Dave has served as a consultant for various healthcare organizations, including the World Health Organization in the area of trade in health services and movement of people across borders to receive health services
